This conceptual artworks was guided by the shape a piece of acrylic skin inspired. See the wing? That was the inspiration for the whole painting.
Acrylic skins are precious in a fantastical way… they’re dried layers of acrylic, pealed from my palette. They literally hold the story of all my previous creations, which, one by one, gave all its texture to the dragon you now have before your eyes. The pieces of skin constituting the head and wing of the dragon have been barely painted over, revealing all the motifs and memories trapped in them. The gold pile that guards the dragon is also made of skins, slightly thicker, and covered by gold paint and gold leaves.
For the rest of the painting, my approach was to stay loose and let the skins speak for themselves.
