This is my visual interpretation of the fragrance of hydrating coconut shampoos; A burst of freshness, infinite layers of scents dancing together, fun and vibrant!
It’s a mixed media digital painting incorporating oils, acrylics, pastels, charcoal and a hint of graphite.
Contrasts are everything – sharp edges where the coconut was split, muted colors VS vibrant palette, detailed subject on a non-representational abstract background – contrasts are the key to an eye-catching result. Transparent layers and washes are also very important, especially for the water, and let’s not forget to feather them at seams to blend everything together. It was a challenge not to hesitate to go back with more and more layers when developing the background, from the fear of hiding lovely marks forever, but all those layers are what made it so intriguing to look at. The hair on the shell were particularly enjoyable to make.
