Forever keeping an eye on the city.
When crime falls upon the city, Detective TranquilWoods is the man for the job. His piercing eyes leave no clue behind. His wit makes even the strongest of alibies crumble to dust. Not even the mice are fast enough to escape his claws.
He was painted in Rebelle 8 using a mix of abstract and semi-realisms, with part of my sketch left visible to complement the textures. The deepness of his eyes was created by layering light washes over thick contrasting lines multiple times to push the previous layers further back to create the illusion of veins in a voluminous, jelly-like eye globe. The head feathers have been individually soften at the base before starting the next row. The city sets the ambiance with its moody colors. Due to the lack of adequate brush, I had to develop my own technique to simulate the effect of a thick bead of paint applied with the tip of a palette knife; I formed a thick oval of paint using the Bristle Rake brush in a twisting motion, then by “kneading” it gave it its concave centre, flattened one side and feathered the end.
Digitally painted. Contact me if you are interested in prints, a digital format, or have a special request.
