An adventurous little goat, on its way to the grand snack perched in the mountains! Will it get to it safely?

It’s not my first time using acrylic skins… but usually I sculpt the subject of the painting with them. For a change here I made the character interreact with them instead – a teeny tiny goat, climbing in the mountain! Most of the pieces of skin are from a part of my palette which was already in tints of grey, which was perfect as it allowed me to leave them mostly untouched, revealing the beautiful texture. The rest I brought closer to grey with washes, trying to match the textures while keeping pops of color here and there. I’m really proud of myself there, it came out just how I wanted! Notice the blue piece of skin top right, part of the sky? That one is placed upside-down, hence why it’s smoother, flatter. It creates variety.

I also used charcoal in this painting, I love the slightly distressed look it gives. And it creates such soft shading too! There’s also a touch of ink, which helped accentuate the motifs naturally created in the acrylic skins, and a mini micron pen for the linework of the goat and the lines of the tufts of grass. And palette knifes were the ideal tools for the textured gradient at the very bottom of the horizon, behind the mountains.
